Romance: Sir Edward Coley Burne-Jones's The Pilgrim at the
Gate of Idleness
Exhibition at Dallas Museum of Art featuring the
newly acquired Burne-Jones painting and related works from
the Museum's collection and other lenders. The Dallas Museum
of Art is open Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Fridays 11am to
4pm., Thursdays 11am to 9pm, Saturdays and Sundays 11am to
5pm.

Victorian Interior Design
Lecture series by John Burrows for Newton Community
Education in Newtonville, MA, on 4, 11, and 25 February
1997. An overview of residential interior design from the
1840s to the turn of the century, the series will note the
evolution of house styles and design influences on American
homes, with an emphasis on New England interiors. It will be
presented as a broad survey, based on historical materials,
period photographs of interiors and museum recreations, and
the lectures will be of interest to Victorian homeowners and
to interior designers. The session for 25 February, entitled
"Late Victorian: The Old-Fashioned Home," deals in part with
the particular importance in New England of the influence of
William Morris and the Arts & Crafts Movement.

Victorians: British Painting in the Reign of Queen Victoria,
1837-1901
Exhibition of more than 100 paintings at the National
Gallery of Art, Washington, DC. Includes works by
Pre-Raphaelites and associates--Rossetti, Burne-Jones,
Millais, Holman Hunt, G. F. Watts, John Brett, Whistler. The
Gallery is sponsoring a Victorian

Inspiring Reform, Boston's Arts & Crafts
Movement
Exhibition at Davis Museum and Cultural Center at
Wellesley College. The most important gathering of
Boston Arts and Crafts materials since the Museum of Fine
Arts show a decade ago; Morris's influence will be felt in a
selection of books printed by Copeland and Day, D. B.
Updike, and Will Bradley. This exhibition will travel in
1998 to the Smithsonian Institution's Renwick Gallery in
Washington, DC.

of Enchantment: British Fantasy in the Golden
Age
Exhibition at the Watkinson Library, Trinity College,
Hartford, CT. On display are illustrations from historic
legends and myths, folk and fairy tales, horrific
literature, and works on anthropomorphized animals and
flowers. Illustrators represented include--apart from Morris
and Burne-Jones--Arthur Rackham,Edmund Dulac, Jessie M.
King, Harry Clarke, Beatrix Potter, Richard Doyle, and
Walter Crane. On Wednesday, 8 October 1997. Ronald Thomas,
Trinity College Associate Professor of English, will begin
the Open House with a talk at 5pm in McCook Auditorium on
"Moving Pictures/Modern Subjects: Dracula and the Cinematic
Afterlife of the Victorian Novel." Exhibition h ours are
Monday-Saturday 9:30-4:30 when classes are in session. There
