3 February - 2 May 2003
"Vizetelly & Compan(ies): A Complex Tale of Victorian Printing and Publishing."
An exhibition at the Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library, University of Toronto.
The current exhibition at the Fisher Library traces the careers of James Vizetelly (1817-1897) and his brother Henry Vizetelly (1820-1894), as printers and engravers, and occasionally publishers in the 1840s and 1850s. Both brothers were involved in the development of pictorial journalism, at times producing work for The Illustrated London News, but also as founders of The Pictorial Times and other journals.
The exhibition and accompanying catalogue have been prepared by Marie Korey (Massey College), Richard Landon (Thomas Fisher Rare Book Library) and Yannick Portebois and Dorothy E.Speirs (French Studies, University of Toronto). The catalogue was designed and printed by Stan Bevington at Coach House Printing. The catalogue and more information about the exhibition can be found at the Library's web site: http://www.library.utoronto.ca/fisher/current.htm.
