MORRIS SOCIETY SESSIONS AT 2004 MLA



WILLIAM MORRIS SOCIETY SESSIONS AT THE 2004 MODERN LANGUAGE ASSOCIATION CONVENTION, 27-30 December, Philadelphia

The Society is sponsoring a full slate of activities in conjunction with this year’s annual convention of the Modern Language Association, to take place 28–30 December in Philadelphia. In additional to two sessions of papers at the convention itself, we have organized on Tuesday, 28 December a special visit to the Rosenbach Museum and Library and a dinner, which will incorporate our annual meeting and the election of the Society’s governing committee. All members are invited to these events, but be aware the MLA regulations require that those who come to the convention must either register or obtain a pass for the particular session they wish to attend. Passes must be arranged in advance (see details below).

The Morris Society is sponsoring two sessions at the MLA 2004, to take place December 27-30, 2004 in Philadelphia, PA. The program for these sessions is as follows:

The Rosenbach Museum and Library, formerly the home of legendary bookseller and collector, Dr. A. S. W. Rosenbach, and his brother, Philip, a dealer in fine and decorative arts, holds one of the nation’s great collections of rare books and manuscripts. Join Librarian Elizabeth Fuller for a private tour of this beautiful, historic townhouse followed by a unique opportunity to see Kelmscott Press books, original Morris letters and manuscripts, an early printed book from Morris’s library, and other items which one might not expect to find among the Rosenbach’s eclectic mix of treasures (which also includes the manuscript of Ulysses, the archive of Marianne Moore, and the artwork of Maurice Sendak). This visit is limited to twenty people. See RSVP information below.

Note: If you do not register for the MLA annual convention you must obtain a pass for the session(s) of papers you wish to attend. Passes will likely be distributed in the hallway leading to the room where the session is to take place.
The visit to the Rosenbach Museum and Library is limited to twenty people; you will be informed of your status on the list.
Members are expected to pay for their own dinner at Maggiano’s Restaurant. The cost of dinner without liquor or gratuity is $25 per person. Non-member guests are welcome, but we need to know in advance in order to keep a head count.
