Printing and the Book Arts

Fine Press Book Association

The Fine Press Book Association is a new organization being formed by a group of individuals interested in the fine art of printing to promote printing skills and the appreciation of beautiful books. Information about events of interest to book printers, designers and collectors - such as the publication of new books, book fairs, seminars and other related events, will be broadcast via newsletters and a web site. Eventually, we will also publish a journal containing substantial articles about fine press books and the people who make them possible, as well as other subjects of interest to people who admire fine press books.

Colophon

Colophon, based in New York City, is a virtual center for 20th century artists' books. There is an on-line newsletter, exhibitions, and links to dealers specializing in the field.

Book Lovers

From the Netherlands, Book Lovers provides a comprehensive listing of book-related places on the Internet. Included are materials about individual authors, booksellers, and publishers, also access to on-line exhibitions and a section devoted to printing, typography, and rare books.

Antiquarian Booksellers Association of America (ABAA)

If you are looking for rare or out-of-print books by or about William Morris you might begin by looking here. The ABAA Home Page has links to more than 100 booksellers, some of whose stocks can by searched by means of an online facility. Links are provided to bibliographic resources (online library catalogues) and to announcements of upcoming bookfairs.

Thomas Bird Mosher

From the 1890s to the 1920s Portland, Maine publisher Thomas Bird Mosher presented the works of most contemporary--and mostly British--writers in a series of aesthetic volumes. Early on, Mosher was influenced by William Morris and he continued to issue editions of Morris's works even though his typographic style differed radically. This site, maintained by Mosher's bibliographer Philip R. Bishop, gives detailed information about the "Pirate of Portland" and his work.
